The outer is constructed from Fjallraven's propriotory fabric, G-1000 Original, which resists wind and stays dry during short showers and at the same time as it ventilates out body moisture that builds up when you are active.
The synthetic insulation is another Fjallraven technology - G-Loft Supreme, which provides extra warmth, even in damp conditions (perfect for the UK!). The jacket is easy to move about in, with or without a backpack making it perfect for day to day use, as well as more technical adventures.
The sleeves are pre-shaped and the cuffs are adjusted with press buttons. The zipper is two-way and it is covered with a protective flap with press buttons at the chin, chest and hem. Practical storage is found in several pockets: two vertical pockets on the chest, and two at the sides, all with zippers that have oversized pullers so they can easily be opened and closed with gloves on. In addition, there are two spacious mesh pockets on the inside, perfect for storing gloves or a hat. A drawcord can be used to adjust the hem.
So what do we think of the Fjallraven Skogso Padded Jacket? Well, in our opinion, this is an often overlooked jacket, but with clean lines, stylish cut and practical features, this is the one we chose!

Skogsko Padded Jacket
I’ve always liked the look of the Skogsko jackets from Fjallraven, and after buying the un padded version from another company in size medium as an outer shell, I found it was too tight to effectively layer during autumn and winter, so decided to invest a chunk in the padded version from Outdoor Gear, who had the most reasonably priced jackets around. I’m only 5’9, 12 stone but muscular and stocky with a 103cm chest and long arms, so the medium Skogsko probably wouldn’t have been the best fit for layering, so I ordered the large and I’m fairly pleased that I did. I found the size medium was too tight around the neck area, difficult to fully zip up and almost impossible if I had a hoody on underneath. Without any layers like a fleece or thin down hoody underneath, the size large looks a little baggy, a bit like a snowboarding jacket but this is soon rectified by the hem draw cord. The insulation is actually thicker than I thought it’d be and is toasty warm with just a jumper underneath, so if the thermometer hits below -5c I’ll have enough room for my down hoody and even a fleece at the same time. Having just waxed it I’ve found it increases it’s insulating properties considerably, although I’m yet to test it’s water resistance, but if it’s anything like my medium un padded Skogsko then I’ll be reaching for my waterproof shell. I waxed the medium three times, sprayed a layer of Nikwax too but it still let water in during a moderate shower. I was outside for a good three hours though, so maybe it wasn’t that bad a performance. To maintain the effectiveness of the Greenland wax, I’ve found running an iron over your jacket once in a while resets the wax, refilling the tiny pores in the G1000 Lite. The wax layer breaks up with movement, exposing the pores, so this needs to be done regularly, which is massive hassle if you just want to grab your jacket and go. The manufacture, construction and cut is typical Fjallraven quality, except for the small black stopper on the hood reducer coming off a day after I recieved it, nothing that a bit of superglue can’t fix. Still a bit concerning though, time will tell. Overall I’m quite pleased (although my bank balance isn’t) and I look forward to hopefully using it every winter for the next few years. Outdoor Gear always have a great selection of Fjallraven products at good prices, so I’ll be using them again in the future, when the Nuuk Parker starts calling my name!
